| COPY CAT Copy Cat relies on the free flow of art and information; projects are explicitly for copying and re-distribution. The recipients are asked to give the work an afterlife of their own choice. The invitation to contributors was to produce work for Copy Cat that begs to be further reproduced, distributed, interpreted and dealt with. Work is only fully implementedwhen the user has photocopied it from the pages, distributed it in thecontext they see fit, or is encouraged by the work to act. With its artisticshareware, Copy Cat seeks to activate others - make them feel like theyhave a stake in extending and adding new layers to the projects. In short,Copy Cat projects are at the same time activist and intimate. There aremany historical examples of this kind of initiative, distribution ethosand culture. This strategy is not ours, but copied. We feel compelled togive energy back to systems of distribution and reception that aren’t forpersonal profit or gain. Over sixty persons have been invited to contribute to Copy Cat. They are a mix of artists, activists, collaborators and others coming fromdiverse backgrounds. Copy Cat will be presented at the gallery of theArt Academy of Aarhus, Denmark, in September and at Mess Hall, in Chicago, early next year. Lars Bang Larsen and Brett Bloom | |
